Our Mission
A Brief History of Our Foundation
The mission of the Indiana State Library Foundation is to serve the citizens of Indiana through the support, enhancement, and promotion of activities of the Indiana State Library, their programs and collections, and to aid in the development of programs benefiting individuals and libraries throughout the state.
In the spring of 2011, Governor Mitch Daniels signed Senate Bill 485 into law. The bill established the Indiana State Library Foundation as a nonprofit 501C(3) entity. This enabled the Foundation to solicit and accept tax-deductible contributions. Prior to that time, gifts and bequests to the library were held in trust by the State of Indiana until such time that the funds were transferred to the Indiana State Library Foundation to act as stewards of the money and to disperse the funds according to the donor’s intent. The Board of Directors, composed of community leaders from throughout the state, act as the stewards of the funds and work to enhance the ability of the Foundation to make a difference in the lives of Indiana residents.
We’re dedicated to enhancing access to knowledge and community resources. Our foundation supports programs that promote historical awareness, promote literacy and serve the visually impaired. Partnering with us means joining a mission to uplift our community and bring literature to everyone.
From genealogy initiatives to unique resources for young readers, we create meaningful connections and opportunities for learning. Your involvement plays a crucial role in supporting our ongoing efforts, and together, we can truly make a difference.
